ブラジル南部のリオ・グランヂ・ド・スル生まれのシンガー・ソングライターでピアニスト、エルメート・パスコアルとともに活動するなど類稀なる才能を発揮するも、1989 年に若くして癌でこの世を去ることになってしまった夭逝の天才、アナ・マゾッチ。そのキャリアのなかで残した数少ない作品のひとつにして、ブラジリアン・レアグルーヴの最高峰として知られるのが本作『Ninguem Vai Me Segurar (1974)』である。公私ともにパートナーであったホミド・サントスがプロデュースとドラムを担当した以外は、アレンジ/キーボードがジョゼ・ホベルト・ベルトラミ、ベースにアレックス・マリェイロス、パーカッションにアリオヴァルド・コンテスチーニと、ママォン以外は当時のアジムスの面々をそのまま起用。アジムスの伝説的な 1ST アルバムとほぼ同時期にレコーディングされたこともあり、本作は長らくアジムス諸作品と並ぶブラジリアン・レアグルーヴの名作として多くの音楽ファンに愛されてきた。7拍子からスタートするキラーなエレピ・サンバジャズ "Agora Ou Nunca Mais" 、スペーシーなミッド・ジャズファンク "Roda Mundo"、ベースとドラム、クラビネットの強烈なアンサンブルからスタートする "Eu Sou Mais Eu"...。ドラム、パーカッション、ベース、エレピという極めてシンプルな編成でありながら、サンバという共通言語を背景にそれぞれの個性豊かなニュアンスが生み出す稀有なグルーヴは、まさにワン・アンド・オンリー。ブラジリアン・フュージョン、スペーシー・ジャズ・ファンクの最高峰にして、サンプリング・ソースの宝庫、グルーヴ・ミュージアムであるアジムスの魅力を凝縮したものと言えるだろう。そして極めつけとなるのが、ロバータ・フラックの歌唱でも有名な "Feel Like Making Love" のカバーである。ベルトラミらしいシンセサイザーとマゾッチの類稀なる歌声が得も言われるメロウネスを醸し出す、このレアグルーヴ・アンセムの収録が、本作を名作たらしめていると言えるだろう。

Ana Mazzotti, a talented singer, songwriter, and pianist from southern Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul, was a rising star whose life was tragically cut short by cancer in 1989 at a young age. Despite her brief career, she left behind a handful of remarkable works, one of which is the highly acclaimed Ninguem Vai Me Segurar (1974), regarded as a pinnacle of Brazilian rare groove.
The album was produced by her partner, Homero Santos, who also played drums, with arrangements and keyboards by José Roberto Bertrami, bass by Alex Malheiros, and percussion by Ariovaldo Conteschini—essentially featuring the core members of the legendary Azymuth band (excluding Mazzotti herself). Recorded around the same time as Azymuth's first iconic album, this work has long been loved by music fans as one of the greatest Brazilian rare groove albums, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Azymuth catalog.
Tracks like the killer electric piano samba-jazz "Agora Ou Nunca Mais," the spacey mid-tempo jazz-funk "Roda Mundo," and the intense ensemble-driven "Eu Sou Mais Eu" showcase a unique groove created by a minimalist setup of drums, percussion, bass, and electric piano. Despite the simplicity of the arrangement, the collective personalities and nuances of the musicians, all rooted in samba, create an extraordinary and rare groove that is truly one-of-a-kind.
