The funk version "I Want You Back" by the elite jazzmen selected by the label's founder Bob Shad is a powerful instrumental cover released in 1973, with pounding funk drums leading the song from beginning to end. And coupled with trumpeter Johnny Coles' jazz-funk cover of 1972's bitter mellow "Never Can Say Goodbye." The label's first combination work that selects two DJ favorite songs.
