Ryo Fukui passed away in 2016 after leaving only five works. This work is the fourth work recorded in 1999. At that time, this was the first analog version of a work that was released only on CD. Recorded in New York with Lyle Atkinson (bass) and Leroy Williams (drums), the rhythm team of Barry Harris, who he looks up to as his teacher, this is a masterpiece that fully conveys Fukui's charm as a bop pianist. The song selection and composition centered on the standard, and of course the play is full of enthusiasm and power. A solid touch full of conviction, a sense of swing with a core and elasticity, and emotion and poetry that oozes within the dynamism. It is a vivid sound that makes you feel Fukui's breath and will. I'm also happy to see the representative song "Mellow Dream" performed again.
